I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ByteDance (São Paulo, ) in Jan 2021
Interview
Terrible process. I first scheduled a meeting at a very inconvenient time (since they are in China) and the interviewer was a no-show. The second time around they showed up and asked me a few questions. At the end of our talk, she asked me for my resume — which I had already sent. Apparently they didn’t even bother taking a look at it.
They scheduled another talk, again at a very inconvenient time. As soon as the interviewer showed up I could tell that I didn’t want to work for that company. The person looked depressed. It looked like working there made them miserable.
Speaking very broken English (I could barely understand them), the second interviewer asked very shallow questions and clearly didn’t know how to conduct an interview.
When I asked them about the compensation for the job, they only said that they didn’t know and I’d have to ask HR. I wonder if anyone who values their own time would go through more than two interviews to have a ballpark on how much they’d make. I know I won’t.
I just left the interview and frankly I don’t even want to know if they liked me or not. Another recruiter from ByteDance contacted me for another role, but this first experience made me give up on going through with it.
I applied online. I interviewed at ByteDance (Austin, TX)
Interview
Took Hacker Rank test after applying. Was my first one and did not perform very well. Questions were harder than average compared to other Hacker Rank screenings I have done in the past

Interview
Communication is good. I was asked about the JavaScript, React, and other frontend questions. But the interviewer didn't give me any chance to ask him back about the company. This is the first round. I am still waiting for the result.
