The interview process was disorganized, to say the least, having several different members of the recruiting team jumping at different moments with a different set of instructions.
I had first a phone interview with a member of the Legal Recruiting team. Nothing special there, I run down my CV and did not receive questions to evidence my experience. I was then informed that I would be required to complete a written assignment and a phone interview with the Hiring Manager.
The Written assignment was not complicated, at least I believe it would not be for any corporate attorney with experience.
The sour note came in the interview with the Hiring Manager. The interview felt superficial, the Manager had little interest in my personal background, she acted as if she was doing me a favor simply because she was interviewing me for Amazon (Note that I was referred by an Amazon employee to the position and I was personally not looking for the job at the moment but decided to go forward as it is always attractive to have any prospective career options), she disregarded the field of law in which I have been working for the past few years (aviation) by saying “you don’t know what dynamic is, your industry does not compare to what we do at Amazon” (rude and uncalled for), she was bluntly “unamused” by the experience I showed (M&A, Competition proceedings, regulatory, corporate, IP, etc.), she did not care nor intended to know me personally to determine if I was a good fit for the position, and at the end, when she gaved me 10 minutes to ask questions, it came across as if she was troubled by my questions, “What is the normal career path for someone who is in this position in Amazon? Is there a likelihood of moving through the different industries within Amazon?”, she definitely did not like this question, and answered something in the lines of “we want someone that’s here for the lung rune”, I also asked her about amazon prime air and said that I would love to be able to participate in that project whenever possible, to what she coldly answered “Prime Air does not serve our country”.
All in all, I believe I had the credentials and experience for the role, my performance in the interview was not bad, yet I think it all came down to a “lack of feeling” with the HM. Ultimately, I was told that they would not continue with my candidacy and gave NO CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK NOR ANY FEEDBACK FOR THAT MATTER EVEN AFTER I KINDLY ASK FOR IT TO WORK IN MY AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY.
Ultimately, I have to say enjoyed my personal preparation for the Interview, learning the history of Amazon and reading of its accomplishments is breathtaking. Undoubtedly, the leadership of JB is inspiring.
