Question 1
what makes a successful professional services firm?
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at AlphaSights (Londres, Inglaterra) in Jul 2014
Interview
Got contacted by the recruiter via LinkedIn so I only had a short phone interview for my first round. Interview questions were mainly focussing on my motivation/ interest in AlphaSights and on other job opportunities that was looking at.
My second round interview took place as part of the connect days. The interview lasted around 1.5 hours and was a very pleasant conversation. Essentially, the interview was about describing the decision-making process behind every station of my CV. Moreover, I was asked some further questions on my motivation to join AlphaSights as well as questions to test my understanding of the role of an Analyst at AlphaSights.
The final interview round took place in London and consisted of a case study presentation in the morning and an in-depth interview with the Managing Director in the afternoon. As for the case-study, I got sent a description of the research task in advance and was then expected to present my findings to 3-4 interviewers from AlphaSights on the day of the interview. After the presentation I was asked a few follow-up questions on the case study and about my CV. The focus of the final interview with the Managing Director again focussed on my understanding of the work at AlphaSights. Additionally, I was asked questions about my future goals to find out whether AlphaSIghts provides the right environment for my personal development.
All in all, the whole interview process was certainly the best interview experience that I had so far. Having had interviews with big MNEs and consulting firms before, I never encountered a firm that had such authentic interviewers, which showed a genuine interest in my person at all times. Thus, every interview felt more like a good chat with a friend rather than an actual interview. My overall impression was that AlphaSights puts a lot of emphasis on assesing the fit of the candidate in terms of skills, goals and personality.
