I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at AT&T (Atlanta, GA) in Jun 2011
Interview
Initial interviews are funneled through an external recruiter. They ask basic behavioral questions and questions regarding sales experience. As a recent grad with 2 years sales experience I was surprised to not even go on past the screening round, but with big corporations like ATT I imagine they want someone who can live and breath ATT so talk more about adaptability (working with clients/managers/etc) and willingness to learn their ways through the 6 month training.
Note: The screening interview is very awkward and one sided becuase the recruiter is just asking questions and giving no feedback or personality back to you and then takes long pauses when you finish talking to take notes.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at AT&T in Jul 2011
Interview
I applied online and took a survey they sent me via e-mail. A few days later I received an e-mail from
a recruiter asking me if I was still interested in employment with AT&T and if so I needed to reply to his
e-mail by the following week. I applied for the same position in 3 different stores in my area. He called me
the following week to set up a face to face interview with the area hiring manager in one of the stores. I arrived promptly and he took me to a small back office and that is where the interview occurred. He began by telling me his background then proceeded to explain the recruiting process at AT&T. He explained that most people are not hired for full time positions from outside the company, that current part timers are given first consideration to move into full time if there is an opening. I thought that was strange since there were so many full time openings posted in my state. He went through a checklist of different store locations in the area, asking me if I would be willing to work in those areas. There were many since I am in a major city. The interviewer was cordial enough but pressed me on a few of my answers to try and dig deeper for a different response I guess. He even told me my one answers was "too textbook" and to try again. After he was done with his questions I asked several of my own. Finally he told me to be patient and give him about 2 weeks for other interviews to take place. Then, if they decided to move forward my application that I would get a call to meet with the store manager. It's been exactly 1 week, so I am waiting it out to see if I get a call. I tripped up on one question, so that might have blown my chances but we shall see.
