Pros

Company culture used to be the biggest pro. Despite the cons, this used to be a great place to work because they cared deeply about their employees, provided tons of perks, and cared deeply about maintaining a healthy work life balance. Ever since our new CEO came onboard, all of these pros have been slowly eroding, and with the recent layoffs and absolutely tone-deaf communication of them, they’ve shown that employees are just as expendable as within any other company.

Cons

Outdated tech stack reliant on tons of patchwork hacks, and that’s even if you’re not working in appdev. If you’re unlucky enough to get stuck at appdev for any prolonged period of time working with XO, consider your skills basically obsolete. You’d be better off putting Scratch on your resume than XO. Also very low pay and room for growth. They prioritize outside hires for most top level positions. Whatever level you get hired at, be prepared to be stuck there for a long time. The strategy is to “boomerang”, i.e get a job at another company, then come back at a higher level to reap the benefits of the higher pay and company culture. You can climb pretty well if you’re a rockstar developer, but honestly if this describes you you’re way better off going anywhere else as your TC and promos here will not match what you can get at other companies. If you get a ridiculous offer from this company, by all means take it, but then get ready to bounce out of here ASAP before your career stagnates. As I said, the only reason anyone would ever want to stay here for any length of time was due to the culture here, but that’s all gone now. Don’t get suckered into being loyal to this company. You just got to be very mercenary, get your money and get out.

Workday magic is long gone

Pros

Flexible work for select teams

Cons

Circa 2019/2020 Workday took a dramatic downhill turn. Employees stopped being the #1 value and essentially were removed from the equation. The guiding principle of Workmates as the number one value nosedived straight over a cliff and keeping up with the Jones took its place. If you are a new hire, you probably think Workday is still pretty cool. Great, enjoy it for two years and move on. If you have been there more than 5 years, I bet you wish you could hit rewind. Workday went bad when it started hiring new leadership, who in turn brought all of their old culture and colleagues from VMware, Western Union, ETC… With this came an alienation of tenured employees, and penchant for new practices without reviewing their purpose, and a new fear-based leadership style. If you’re not prepared to suck up to the Leader DuJour, be prepared to move on. Last warning: if you work for a support organization (A Non Dev employee, AKA grunt workers) including BT, Workplace, or People and Purpose speaking up will likely get you terminated, even if its part of one of those ‘confidential’ pulse surveys. Workday had so much of its own magic if only it had continued to build on that. Alas, C-suite relied on what other companies were doing regardless of what was best for Workday.

Pros

Great benefits, great industry salary for the role.

Cons

There are limited opportunities for career progression or further development within the company. Despite a good salary for the CSD (SDR) role, there are no chances for upward mobility to an AE position. This means that unless you seek opportunities elsewhere, you may find yourself confined to your current role. Speaking of moving elsewhere, the company employs a contract clause that can be restrictive if you are not Irish. They offer a relocation package worth approximately €10k-€15k, but you are required to pay it back if you leave within two years. When it comes to salary negotiation, unfortunately, it is not an option. The management handpicks one person in each region to receive an annual salary increase. However, the criteria for this increase are loosely defined (you'll receive some corporate jargon that may insult your intelligence). It is disheartening to see that some top performers were left without a salary increase, while individuals with lower performance received one. Women or ethnic minority? You will primarily find it in the most junior levels of the company, such as the CSD organisation. Once you move beyond that role, diversity becomes scarce. Like really scarce. Lastly, be prepared for micromanagement from men who enjoy Guinness and play golf and/or rugby.
