Pros

Still decent flexibility, ESPPs and decent annual leave.

Cons

When I joined workday originally I was struck by how loyal all of the employees were. People rarely left or moved to other companies and people were motivated to do their best and progress in their careers there. This has all changed in the last 2 years. Everyone is under constant fear of the next round of layoffs. Developers have been pigeon holed by working with a proprietary language. This was fine when there was job security but this is no more. There are cuts in every area from snacks to staff parties and Christmas gifts. These are all secondary things but a representation of the direction the company is heading. No one is guaranteed any RSUs anymore and this was what made our compensation competitive. Opportunities for progression and promotion are limited and competitive and every year we hear rumours of a “tight budget” because of the conveniently timed layoffs a few months before. Having decimated the QA org and putting even more work on developers, and even tighter timelines, we are under a ridiculous amount of pressure. How, as an XO developer, can I not feel stress at the idea that I might be let go at any moment and not be able to repay my mortgage? And having not worked with other employable technologies in years. All of this, and the share price has been slowly (and sometimes not so slowly) dwindling. Carl’s impact on the company has been detrimental and he has absolutely 0 regard for the thousands of employees in Workday. He may pretend to cry when he announces yet another round of layoffs, but he does not care one bit about the devastating effect this has on thousands of people and their families. The sooner they replace him the better - for both the share price and the employee experience.

Pros

Additional PTO via Thank you days are nice.

Cons

There is virtually no new hiring for US/Canada/Ireland positions, jobs are being offshored to India. The problems caused by offshore teams cost us a lot of time and money and surely no net gains. They also made promotions much more difficult to come by. 50% in-office requirement.
