Pros

I would say that the best reasons to work for Wal-Mart are the culture, the opportunities, and the freedom of information shared. The company has a very strong culture of hard-working individuals. While the Saturday morning meetings may be inconvenient, the opportunity to receive direction from the Senior Management on a monthly basis is invaluable. If information is needed to do my job, all I have to do is ask. They are very open to sharing anything that will help me be able to complete my job better. With all of the jobs available at Wal-Mart, if I decide that I no longer am interested in my occupation, I can start a completely different career, all while remaining an employee of the same company.

Cons

Wal-Mart doesn't spend a lot of money on providing a lavish working environment. While this could be perceived as a benefit with savings, there are many things that employees go without so that the company can save money. I don't expect mahogany desks, but having a little nicer facility can really go a long way towards improving employee morale. When you spend a majority of your time in one location, you would hope that it would be an environment that is comfortable, Wal-mart is not. Even the Home Office feels like a large people warehouse. While it could be worse, it is not ideal.

Pros

Overall this is a fun place to work and the people are great. This is the big reason that keeps me here. Below are some good points: The people you work with are great and always willing to help or teach you. Walmart.com allows a good balance between work and home life. A shuttle program is now available to pick up fairly close to home and take you to and from work. A new Gym for employees is now available. While working here you have the opportunity to learn so much about the business which includes working with the Ark Home office.

Cons

No career path from most positions so you need to create or ask for what other opportunities are available. Structure is always changing which leads to you having many managers in one year. Constantly dealing with issues that from some departments deem critical however not enough research is done from the folks screaming however other departments have to scramble to answer their questions. This is not very productive as it seems to always pull you away from what you wanted to accomplish that day. I think it’s great that there is plenty of work to do here however with your calendar booked all the time for meetings you find yourself working late every evening to keep up with the workload.
