Pros

Potentially stable place to work. Benefits package can be useful to you if you like to shop at Wal-Mart. Large organization means that there's a team for everything.

Cons

Old boy network rule supreme. Managers in some department feel that they own you and will work you as hard as they can if you let them. Poor support in getting equipment. Terrible corporate culture. Environmental awareness posters everywhere but an utter disregard for implementing actual power-saving measures. Their efforts to drive down prices are focused on driving down lower-level employee compensation.

Pros

I enjoy the discount, They are fairly flexibe when you need time off. The Open Door policy is great. You can walk right up to the store manager and discuss your issues. In most places that I have worked, this was not necessarily the case. I feel like I can be open and honest and let them know what is bothering me. We get a bonus every 3 months based on the store performance. We also get incentives for other things also. Last week, the management team cooked steak and potatoes for each and every associate.

Cons

Working with the public is always a downside to retail jobs.

Pros

There are adequete benefits available. Management is understanding and cooperative when time is needed off for personal or family reasons. There is acceptable balance between work and my personal life. There is always opportunity to move in any dorection you owant with ample promotion possibilities. There is a vast variety of job posistions available and associates are encouraged to seek those posistions and to focus on a promotions as they see fit for their peronal lives.

Cons

Overtime is rarely available, therefore, associates feel there isn't enough time to complete the tasks required of them in the hours provided. Working with the public is often very difficult and it seems that Wal-Mart customers are at times overly demanding and often hard to please. In my years of experience with Wal-Mart I have come to learn that the customers expect more from Wal-Mart (which I don't have a problem with per se), and are rather rude and disrespectful when demanding what they want. This sounds very judgemnetal, but after 10 years of service, thois is what I personally experience nearly everday. At times, it makes my job very difficult.
