Pros

Size and scope of the enterprise means that whatever your niche is, there is likely a team or product that wants your specialization. Living near the corporate headquarters is definitely a selling point. Northwest Arkansas was amazing when I first started and has only kept getting better.

Cons

It's a retailer not an IT company. It's got that baked into its bones and it shows sometimes with the decision/procurement process. Tech debt is pretty high in some areas and often it won't be addressed due to penny wise, pound foolish thinking. Northwest Arkansas and by proxy the Bentonville campus is liberal for the South but conservative for the tech industry standards. Sometimes people are waaaaayyyyy out of step with that reality and either want the Good Old Boy days to come back or can't understand why their deeply held views are labelled as being Social Justice Warrior-esque.

Pros

perks, goodies , reimbursements etc Good Food ( Pre Covid ) . Decent snacks in the pantry.

Cons

It has been a painful journey right from my on-boarding until my off-boarding and even during my tenure.I am saying this because i believe i have dealt with both the HR department and the technical department managers. Onboarding - The Recruiters(if only i could reveal their name) never address your queries, they never pick up your call. They offered me a low pay without any negotiations to start with. In the onbording you will be told that the culture is super strong but its not, its pathetic. Work/Tenure - You are just limited to doing meager work and no one really cares about your personal growth, although they will keep on emphasizing that this is for your own benefit. They expect you to work unconditionally because YOU ARE GETTING PAID(xyz amount) for it!! Offboarding - It will be completely and solely your responsibility to courier the laptop and if you faced any problem doing that, then good luck with that as no one from the IT/HR is really approachable. You will have to write emails to get any kind of help.

Pros

Wal-mart has unbelievable support benefits insurance the list goes on and on. If you want to work for a company that looks out for you in every good way and not in a negative way, this is where you belong.

Cons

The only downside at Walmart it is tough to climb the ladder it takes years of pursuit in a style similar to what a politician might go thru essentially being accepted by every employee as deserving to be promoted. Another words it doesn't happen easily. If you are a hard worker, get ready to be used hard and put up wet. I suggest taking everything you do at a pace because if you are out to impress you had better be prepared to keep that pace because it will become required and expected without any kind of gratification or appreciation for putting forth extra at work. There is not any type of reward system for someone who puts in 110% and doing so will not benefit you. I recommend watching people your first couple of days and paying attention to stay in the mainstream average. You will not get a raise and will not gain for extra hard work ethic and from personal experience let me say that learning this lesson is hard on your motivation once you have. So don't do it. Set a pace you can easily handle and stick to it no matter what and enjoy your job its a cinch.
