Pros

Good benefits, ok vacation time, great profit sharing benefits.

Cons

I've been an employee for over 10 years. I used to love working for Walgreens! Great benefits, great pay, tons of help, and lots of hours to go around. However, as the company grew bigger and in 2008-2009 everything changed and They have become a perfect example of profit over people. Benefits are getting cut yearly. Medical plans are very very expensive. Vacation program got switched over to a PTO based system so your vacation amount varies from year to year. So I went from having 18 paid days off, great benefits, a yearly bonus, a yearly Christmas gift to what is now the Wal-mart of the drugstore chains. Hours are constantly getting cut, makes their employees feel like used car salesmen, and promote this facade of well being as their employees burn out and get replaced by a revolving door of new hires. Seniority isn't taken into consideration anymore.

Pros

Able to get raises if you work hard. You get to learn a lot about medication and helping patients manage their meds

Cons

Corporate doesn't care about you. You managers probably don't either. You'll work your self to the bone in pharmacy and we never get more hours or extra help.

Pros

It was a great company to work for 10 years ago. Well compensated. If you are crazy enough to take the pharmacy manager position there is an opening about once a month due too high turnover.

Cons

Overwhelming work load since Boots got involved with Walgreens their business model is to "reduce and stretch the staff". Profits take first priority over patient safety. You constantly try to keep up as a pharmacist but more and more metrics are thrown at you. Upper management is not sympathetic and often overbearing. Pharmacists must report to non-pharmacists and often have to explain their rational. Mistakes sometimes go under reported because if you make too many you are put on a performance improvement plan and replaced. If you value your quality of life, it is a good idea to look elsewhere if possible.
