Pros

Great pay Great benefits Lots of locations equals minimal commute to work. Management has it figured out and are always open to new ideas. They have an 8 hour work day vs the 12 hour work day of the competition. They pay overtime (ask the competition if they will do that!!!!) The company is branching out in to new areas. The company is still growing even in a tough market. Your day goes quickly..... This is big company and there is job for every personality (you just need to find your happy place) They are always listed as one of the best company's to work for and it shows.

Cons

Its retail and the hours are hard sometimes, especially during holidays. The customers can be really mean, and all you can do is smile about it. You are on your feet non stop, restroom breaks are almost impossible to get, and your to busy for a lunch break. Once again it is retail.

Pros

Stable company with long history and decent financials. Computer system really is one of the best in the industry, so that makes learning it AND teaching techs (high turnover is an issue) a much quicker and easier process. There is something to be said for windows-based system... Also, I think how much you like a particular location depends on the Rx Supervisor, the pharmacy manager, the store manager, and the techs. As a floater all over NJ I have seen some really great stores and some really ugly ones. I suppose working in one store one can make more impact...

Cons

Retail is retail. Often the stores are short-staffed, but that depends on how good your Rx supervisor is. I would say we are OK here. However, the training is rather limited, as is information sharing. Pharmacists should have more opportunity to share best practices, learnings, etc. Also, Walgreens doesn't encourage further learning to any significant extent. It would be better if they paid for attendance of a major meeting once every two years or something like that. Would help with live CE hours too. Also, store managers often think they are in charge of the pharmacy too, and that's just plan annoying because they don't have a clue.
