Toxic US Management; US needs to focus on safety and merit.

Pros

Willing to recognize A players and put them in places for potential success - provided it doesn't risk any of US leadership's golden children. Pay is relatively good.

Cons

The US organization's leadership is unbelievably toxic and does little else than create distractions. Local management should facilitate business - not inhibit it or distract from it. The inner politics at the US executive level are often-times all consuming and generate completely unnecessary noise, stress, and inter-department tensions. One of the side effects of this is that hand-picked favorites (without legitimate merit) get put in increasingly elevated positions. Historically there has been little focus on safety and ethics when it comes to US operations. This has been improving but the long history of this being lacking the US is a big deal. Those who know the history of the CHA site understand this well. HR function is a constant struggle. Does not support the actual personnel needs of the business. Side note - Glassdoor asks for a rating of the global CEO, Hartel. Hartel is a solid leader and is doing great in his somewhat new spot. The rating for the US org's CEO would not be similar but has not been solicited as part of this review.

Pros

Colleagues in general are supportive and approachable (with the exception of line management). Find the right people in the business.

Cons

Negative Culture and Diversity both on a local and global level that is ultimately driven by archaic, outdated views out of HQ in Germany, this is despite a massive amount of effort from employees to evoke some form of positive change within the business - at least at a subsidiary level. Extremely limited growth opportunities within small subsidiaries and often any form of development is offered on a bias basis to certain individuals without fair process. Unprofessional and under-qualified line managers unable to lead, motivate and manage a team leaving little (if any) respect. General resistance to flexible working - unfortunately out of touch with the challenges people are facing both practically and financially in the modern day world. Past Managing Director allowed to undermine, micromanage, discriminate and bully. Thankfully this individual is no longer in the business due to retirement and the U.K. thankfully under better MD leadership.
