Pros

Wacker offers many competitive compensation and benefit packages, and its Munich-based parent is a very well-run company.

Cons

HR is often referred to as "anti-employee," and employees are reluctant to turn to HR for support. When HR is involved, HR appears to interpret the company's policies in a way that penalizes the employee or prevents the employee from obtaining the company's benefits. HR has a poor reputation among employees.

Pros

Wacker is a stable, secure employer as their customers are across hundreds (thousands?) of markets and applications. Colleagues around the world are like family - super supportive and helpful. I've experienced great teamwork and exciting projects over the years. Wacker makes the right moves for longevity, especially when it comes to carbon neutrality. The new regional HQ in Ann Arbor is gorgeous with many amenities.

Cons

Being a large German company, there is a policy or procedure for everything, so sometimes things are slow moving. But I see constant improvements in this regard. Some roles seem to be paid slightly less than market value.

Pros

In general you will be working 12hr rotating shifts. Some day shift jobs are available, but they can be hard to come by. Safety seems to be a main focus and new programs are showing up. Pay has been increasing to compete with other places as well. Your standard chemical operator position will be a rotation in field operations and control room monitoring of equipment and process pipelines. Expect lots of stairs, general area rounds, equipment purging and line breaks.

Cons

12 hour rotations can be taxing on your family life or weekend hobbies. They can be extremely long and mind numbing or long and hectic. Management can seem to be a revolving door of candidates and ideas come and go. Some ideas and rules seem to repeat themselves. Other cons are that you must realize you are working at a chemical plant, so there are dangers here that can cause bodily harm to you and coworkers verses other opportunities with similar pay and benefits.
