Toxic Lies

Pros

If you can survive VALD you can survive anywhere.

Cons

The below 5 star review is evidence of the arrogance of the founders and the culture of lies. There are 30+ 1 star reviews complaining about the complete lack of HR, the unbelivable staff turnover 40% per year in the last 2 years, and the arrogance, ignorance, and bullying of the two founders. But suddenly a 5 star review claiming to have great HR and staff retention appears. There is often no HR, sometimes one downtrodden staff member working in HR. There are significantly more lawyers employed then there are HR staff, which is needed to handle the flood of fair work complaints against this company. It proves the arrogance of the founders that they believe they can put in a obviously fake 5 star review against the flood of honest reviews from ex-staff who have had their lives rocked by making the mistake of working for these criminals. If you're female, stay well clear as you will be a second rate citizen. Although inappropriate treatment isnt reserved just for the women. Managers are rendered completely useless in the face of constant undermining and bullying from the founders. The two founders have bullied their way through hundreds of employees lives. Staff turnover would be one of the highest in the country as is unfair dismissal claims. The founders laugh every time they receive a new one. They have a growing reputation amongst their clients and Austrlian employees as one of the worst employers in the country. There's absolutely no option to work from home and no HR support. If you read this, stay away.

Pros

I got a VALD water bottle that was hands down one of the best water bottles I've ever put water in, like seriously well done on that front. It's in my fridge right now.

Cons

When you read the cons of some of these other reviews here you might think to yourself there is no way it's all true?! Unfortunately it is. If you are going for an interview at VALD, heed the warnings and don't be fooled by the on-site barista and ping pong table. Underneath all of that is a work culture ruled by a cult of personality which is just weird and exhausting. Everything you do must be signed off by the CEO but don't worry, you'll be told what to do instead because he is smarter than you and will be upfront about letting you know that. And there are plenty of minions, some of which will not attempt to conceal their strange behaviour towards female colleagues. Expect to go above and beyond, working over time and weekends, but do not expect any form of compensation and please don't complain (you couldn't since there is no HR, these damn milennials are too soft anyway). Expect poor communication from management, a turnover rate that defies belief, zero organisation and absolutely no idea where you stand. Have fun!

Pros

I love working at VALD and honestly cannot imagine leaving. Its honestly more like a resort than a work place with free breakfast, lunch, and barista made coffee, a gym that's got everything you need and a massage. But here's the clincher – employee stock options, even for low level employees, making you a real valued part in the business from day one. Plus, a 4-day work week and flexible work arrangements.
The HR is terrific, always looking out for issues and advocating for the employees. All of this means there is very low turn over of staff with most people sticking around for years.

Cons

The only little snag? Parking can be a bit of a hassle, but with everything else so spot on, it's hardly a bother. All up, it's a solid place to work, and I reckon it's worth a bit of parking drama.
