Pros

All around great company with passionate people focused on an amazing mission. It’s hard to say that your work directly impacts lives at a global scale, especially with constant “disruptors” popping up all over SF. The time for the mainstream to accept remote work is now. Ability to work remote whenever needed is a huge plus, gym/commute/phone reimbursements, really good insurance, and free food.

Cons

Leadership direction can lack sometimes and some stronger leadership members’ opinions seem to weigh more than others. Nothing atypical from other companies though.

Pros

They not only take care of the typical benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.) but they also add in a daily lunch stipend (I haven't paid for lunch in a little over a year at work), commuter benefits, unlimited PTO, and so much more. Outside of the awesome perks, management makes it extremely apparent that they are here for your career progression. They will work with you to make sure you are progressing the way you need to in your career. From the top down, the culture of putting the community first, growth, and working together as one overall team is absolutely apparent. It really is an awesome company to work for.

Cons

This isn't necessarily a "con", but change is a consistency at Upwork (in regards to business focus). Be prepared to pivot.

Pros

This is a company with a super inspiring mission that's genuinely trying to make the world a better place, and the success of the company is directly tied to the extent to which it's able to achieve that mission. Good work-life balance, facilitated by things like WFH Wednesdays and a relatively flexible remote work policy. The leadership team is highly committed to the company's mission, and you can see that through their words and actions every day. The CEO keeps reiterating that our goal is to "do well by doing good." The Engineering organization, in particular has made remarkable strides in the past few years. In many places, we're using the latest and greatest technologies and architecture patterns, and in most of the areas where we're not, we have concrete plans to start doing so soon. While there's always room to improve, we're on a great trajectory.

Cons

Compensation could be higher. I expect this to improve in the near future, now that the company is public. Some teams, especially outside of engineering, could do a better job of monitoring and pruning low performers.
