Pros

There was budget to perform research and attending conferences.

Cons

Researchers have to put a lot of effort working on weekends. The highest general manager (rector) has no idea of management. The university has been slipping in ranks and losing quality in the last decade. The hiring process for new teachers is so biased that commonly not the best but the worst gets a teacher position for life. Teachers are never expeled even though they performed very badly. It seems as nobody cares about the overall performance of the University, School or whatever except their own butt.

Pros

Life is relaxed working at the university, you teach and research the topic you are most interested in.

Cons

Salary, definetly. Also the career opportunities are very limited. I almost forgot, the university is governed by people who are neither interested in research nor teaching.

Pros

Nice university city to live at, well-known by Spanish and EU students for its social activities (and night life). Freedom to do research on whatever topics might be of interest to you, without too much interference from senior professors.

Cons

Nasty politics, lack of resources, insufficient funding & too much focus on short-term results, which leads to publishing research papers on marginal topics with a limited impact on the state of the art.
