Pros

Teamster employees are well compensated. You might do better looking else ware if your looking for a management position. However, minorities are given preference in all management areas.

Cons

Long hours required. Possible long commutes to extended area buildings with no compensation for the travel. Managers frequently treated less well than the unionized employees. Middle management not made to feel valued.

Pros

UPS provides a very steady secure job, if you are not the lowest guy on the hourly totem pole. If you can get on board, keep your head tucked down, and do your basic job you don't have to worry about getting fired, layed off, or otherwise be out of work.

Cons

Once you get into management (including Part Time Management) you can expect to spend more time dedicated to UPS than your own family. UPS is much like the military with it's assignments. You are told where to be and when to be there, and you don't have much of a choice. If they need some help in another building several hundred miles away, you're told to go and help. It doesn't really matter if you have committments with your family, you go.

Pros

Full reirement benefits at age 55. Employees really cherish the number of vacation weeks they can earn each year based off years of service. Job security has always been a plus and keeps people to stay at UPS. Benefits are still good but continue to change with the new generation of employees, economy, and health care costs.

Cons

The number of hours employees are expected to work (Mgt culture). Micromanagement to the extreme. Very systematic and rigid place to work. Work is often mundane - report to work, look at numerous reports, gather reasons (excuses) for exceptions and recite best practices to upper Mgt, who recites to thier upper Mgt, etc....Mgt responsible for everything, but have little direct control of anything. Current culture does not foster improvement in business acumen.
