Pros

Honest, hard work - if you do your job properly and without complaint you will move up within the company. It may take a while to advance, but if you stick with it there are plenty of opportunities down the road. The company has also never been shy at explaining what is expected of you - no subterfuge or ambiguity. And once you start working with UPS, they are loyal to you and you have a fraternity of other workers.

Cons

Hard to get ahold of the managers or supervisors. Also, UPS is extremely dependent on the state of the economy - while the company's fortunes rise with the economy, that means they also fall with the economy as well. And if you've only been working a short period of time, expect to be laid off first.

Pros

Responsibilties well beyond job descriptionand title. Level of responsibilty at evrery level makes you very competative once you leave UPS.

Cons

Hostile work environment - constant threatening environment from Management. Absolutely no work[life balance. If 8 holidays a year entices you, long commutes, and inequity in salary and raises thrill you this is the place for you. There's nothing like driving hours to work each way everyday just to get threatened all day! Nothing is more frustrating to have your boss with a high school diploma or an Associates degree tell you you need to go back to school in order to get promoted.

Pros

The money is great. The experience is priceless. It looks great on a resume.

Cons

The stress is killer. The hours are endless. The pressure to put out is relentless. They hate you for leaving. I would say that if you are a UPS driver, you have the best job in the world and should have your head examined for wanting to go into management. If you forego the examination and "jump the fence" and go into management be ready to be pounded on relentlessly by your new union employees as well as the rest of management. You must bleed brown if you want to move up from there. Other than that it's a great place to work!
