As a consultant you do not get to take advantage of the many benefits afforded to UN staff.

Pros

Interesting work, unique exposure to the world, great workplace diversity.

Cons

Lack of professionalism institutionally and interpersonally, low salary, poor benefits, low quality of labor in the workforce, institutionally under-developed in terms of HR, institutionally naive about professional standards of conduct in the the global professional world. Stay away!

Pros

I work at headquarters in NYC, and from this perspective, I think the organization's focus on the sustainable development goals is important and compelling.

Cons

Again, I only have the perspective of working from headquarters in NYC, and there is a lot of internal politics, manipulation and deceit. Also, there seems to be rampant incompetence, but I believe that may be throughout the UN system.
