Pros

- Work/life balance is decent depending on the roll. - Amount of positions and departments creates opportunities to move around. - Vacation days on par with other large companies. - Up to nine sick days per calendar year. - 401k match is good. - Health insurance is good. - Beautiful campus. - Great history and mission.

Cons

- Pay. This is by far the biggest gripe in a laboratory position. UL claims they offer competitive pay, but if that were the case, the turnover wouldn't be so high. - Promotions are few and far between. - Bonuses were reduced for the people who could use it most. Executives tried to pass a new pay mix as a great thing, but a simple excel spreadsheet proves this idea falls flat on its face, and frankly, it's insulting. - Top heavy: Manager on top of manager. - Too many tenured engineers are useless and not held accountable. - No clear direction. Ask 20 people what the new strategy is, and you will get 20 different answers.

Pros

* You get to work in renewable energy in some capacity. * I got to work with some bright people I learned a lot from.

Cons

* Focus only on short-term profits. * Don't care about the quality of software. * Refuse to hire people even when the data shows people are working way too much. * Zero growth with their ABC levels. * Terrible pay. * Complete disregard for mental health and mocked people who were struggling with it during the pandemic. * Went to HR about the treatment there, and the person I complained about told me they were disappointed in me. * Non-stop red tape that only stops innovation. * They encourage long hours and won't pay people anything additional when you have to be on-call for systems that won't stay up because they only understand short-term solutions.

Pros

salary and benefits. nice office location, has free gym.

Cons

management very rude to people, unprofessional.only care to who they will blame. People working very hard and no appreciation. Understaff, so working long hours and weekends. People taking vacation days, just to be able to finish there work. No training at all, company doesn't want to spend money to train people to new technology.

Thank you for providing your feedback. We encourage you to share your feelings with your direct supervisor as well as your local HR representative. Continuous learning and development are encouraged and valued at UL, but it sounds like you haven’t had the opportunity to explore the wealth of training offerings through UL University (ULU). From tech skills to soft skills, there are numerous professional development opportunities. If there is a specific technology you are seeking, perhaps it could be added, especially if others have the same need.
