They are polite in writing to try to hold onto underpaid transcribers.

Cons

They survive as sort of a digital sweatshop and by getting by on a loophole that their employees are contractors. $3 per hour is not an exaggeration of what a highly skilled person might make without special equipment. My highest pay ever was approximately 5-6$ hourly with less regard to quality. I type faster than most, and have a masters degree. Work is also not consistently available, and to make even 5$/hour, many hours of unpaid testing is required. Customers and potential employees, steer clear!

Pros

The only pro would be if you're living in a country where the conversion from the American dollar to your country's currency is quite high. Then maybe you'll be able to afford to live. You probably won't though.

Cons

The low pay is awful. If you live in the United States, you will never, ever make a living wage by working with TranscribeMe. The admins are cliquey, unhelpful, and at times downright rude. The review periods are unreasonable. They happen without warning and sometimes drags on for weeks, delaying pay. The constant updates on Yammer are annoying.
