Pros
Total operates a truly integrated model in the energy sector meaning there are career opportunities at every stage of the energy value chain, and a full spectrum of support functions. Total offers international career opportunities with its worldwide presence and very strong HR and expatriation frameworks. Remuneration is market fair for salary and advantageous when taking the full package into account. The management listen to staff, engagement is measured biannually and action plans communicated. Strategy is influenced from a bottom up collaborative approach (eg "One Total" initiative to capture our collective views on the business ambition for 20 years). Most of all: we all need energy. It is essential for modern life. Working for Total enables us to lead a global drive to innovate towards better, safer, cleaner, more accessible energy.
Cons
Total is a large multinational with a heavy HQ. Working in affiliates can be dynamic, fast paced, and relatively autonomous, however head office is a more hierarchical and process oriented environment. This is countered by the helicopter view and big picture perspective you get from a headquarters role, but can sometimes be a little frustrating.
