Pros

Good opportunities for career development if you have the ambition to do it - because I had worked on checkouts I was offered the opportunity to go onto one of Tesco's graduate schemes (I refused as it wasn't a career path I was interested in). Many people also progressed into management. You do get to meet a lot of nice people. I was only 16-17 when I worked here, but the wage for this age range at Tesco was pretty good.

Cons

Management would sometimes look down on checkout assistants - saw themselves as above us. As with most customer service jobs, you can get nasty customers.

Pros

Its a job...thats about all you can say.

Cons

Sucky environment, no pros. No respect from senior staff, average wages, more expected of you than you receive in return. Dead end.
