Pros

Good way to get customer service experience More diversity

Cons

If you don't sell enough of their credit/debit cards, your hours get cut You only get a raise of about $0.13-$0.30 per year Almost impossible to get cross-trained in other departments

Pros

I was hired on the spot, sometimes we were given incentives (such as free DVDs) if we sold a certain amount of RedCards. That was a nice touch that I think only large corporations can offer.

Cons

I had 2 days of training on the cash register and then on Black Friday I was assigned to work in Electronics - the busiest day for electronic sales for the least trained person?! I had one day of training at the cafe and one day in customer service then I was thrown into those areas without any supervision to fend for myself. It was counterproductive as I had to constantly call someone for help. (Quick side note: I asked if I needed a food handler's card to work in the cafe and they told me it didn't matter- irresponsible) When I applied, I told them part-time only as I'm a full-time student, and when they hired me, I reiterated this. My first week, they scheduled me for 39 hours and scheduled me on days that I had school. When I told them I would be unable work 39 hours and on school days, they said , "We'll try to change it." They didn't seem to understand that I would be willing to skip work in order to go to SCHOOL. It took them a couple of weeks to figure out which days I was unable to work. Doesn't seem like a difficult task, but for them it was. I had told them about a week ahead of time that I had jury duty on a day I was scheduled. The day of jury duty, they called twice asking where I was. I guess they forgot. I was a seasonal employee for the holidays and was leaving to study abroad in England on January 3rd. I gave them 2 weeks notice. However, when the schedule for the first week of January came out, they had scheduled me for days I would be out of the country. I had to tell the HR person THREE TIMES that I had to quit and to take me off the schedule. Each time, she told me she had taken me off the schedule, but somehow I always ended up back on it. For the first 2 weeks that I was in England, I would get phone calls almost daily asking if I come in to work. I had to ask if my mother would be able to pick up my last paycheck as I was out of the country. They told me no. I asked if I was supposed to just wait till May when I returned 5 months later to pick it up and they told me maybe. I didn't accept this so they offered to mail it to my mother's address. First they couldn't find my check, then they told me it was already in the mail. They had to cancel the check they claimed was in the mail and then the person helping me said she found my check under a pile of papers on someone's desk! 5 phone calls later, the check finally arrived about 2 months after it was supposed to be in my bank account.

Pros

co-workers, had a Starbucks, close to home

Cons

No time off even if asked for in advance, always asked to stay later than scheduled, managers did not schedule around my full-time student schedule, Red Card sales are too pushed, dress code too strictly enforced, impatient customers due to an over reliance on managers
