In my store in particular, management does not keep confidential conversations to themselves. Management certainly plays favorites. The bureaucracy of the company means slow-turning wheels for complaints and issues. They seem reluctant to take action against those not doing their job, and people who just skim by and do the minimum seem to be blissfully ignored while those who strive for excellence have more and more weight put on their shoulders. Middle management likes to pawn off responsibilities that they are paid for on lower workers, but the chain of command ensures that this activity goes ignored or unnoticed. It is easy for them to chide lower associates with behavior issues but middle management never gets talked to for the same negative behavior. Middle management does not seem to allow their employees enough time to complete tasks. If you make a complaint or suggestion, often you will never receive the feedback to know how they responded to it. Also reviews for your yearly raise and interviews for promotions are often written up by/conducted by people you don't even work with and thus have no idea of your regular performance.
