Great company that needs more diversity

Pros

Excellent analytics platform that is a market leader and is passionately loved by its customers. Amazing culture in place of humble, smart people. Compelling growth in revenues, margins and employees year over year (YoY).

Cons

Seattle centric company that makes is difficult for remote employees to move up despite rockstar performance. Except for a token Asian EVP, no diversity in executive ranks in North-America which is a competitive dis-advantage. Top Talent of color find it extremely difficult to be considered for executive ranks or promotions. Promises re: upward mobility and resources made at hiring are not kept despite exceptional performance.

Pros

This was the best working experience I've had in my career. I started at Tableau in 2011 when the company was still small. The software was fantastic, customers loved it. They loved us, we loved our customers! Opportunities were ripe for the picking. Back then my advice to someone looking at the company would have been 'just join the company, do your job well, tell your manager what you want to be doing long term, and you should have a good shot of switching into any role down the line'. Tableau grew, and with the growth came the normal things you see. A little bit more politics, a lot smaller territories, etc. That's the way of the world at a bigger software company, I suppose. To the people that complain about that, I'd say 'know yourself, your best fit is probably at a smaller company that is going through hyper-growth, go find that'.

Cons

With all of the growth that's happened over the last 5 years, trajectories of careers will be slower, Also, there are less open roles than there once was, so it's much easier to hire a candidate from outside of the company that has been doing the job for multiple years (whereas before they used to take bigger risks with internal candidates). Pay could use a bit of a boost. When looking outside of Tableau, it's easy to see other comparable jobs that will pay you 20% more then you will make at Tableau. They were using the Amazon pay model, low base/commision comp but you'll make it up on the stock. That hurt in 2016 when the stock was halved in a day, and it took 2 years to get back to that point. But it did come back.

Pros

Tableau provides a lot of benefits to the employees. First of all there is the fact that the company is growing and so can you as an employee . Furthermore the benefits and salary are highly competitive and better then within the competition. Food, a positive team atmosphere are just some points to mention. Overall the structure is pretty flexible and the communication open plus sharing is carying is real! The overall company strategy is very clear and alligns with the market needs.

Cons

No Contras so far :)
