Pros

There are opportunities to move up through TSA and even other federal government jobs. Savings plan, health insurance as a part timer, and a decent starting pay. It will bring you out of your shell if you are a shy person. There are some great people you meet and work with. Supervisors, Leads and Managers tend to be very helpful and respectful. 'GO!card' is helpful for public transportation.

Cons

Starting as a part-timer in NYC won't be enough to even get your own apartment. Full time is rarely offered. The vacation bid is done by seniority, so prepare to not have any time in November, December and or July off if you are new hire. Some coworkers are rude, unprofessional, and poor team-players. Expect to encounter someone rudely questioning your call on checking a luggage for an item or questioning you in front of passengers about the 'SOP' Standard operating procedure. Some officers treat same ranking officers if they are Supervisors & Leads. Simply, situations are handled inappropriately. Unexpected training a week or less notice and sometimes the same day. You will be told to come in at 4AM to 12:30PM for training and ruining your plans for that day. This is bad for those working at later shifts. Passengers and the public can be rude. Expect to be a punching bag for angry tired travelers and expect passengers to harass you and question your job and duty. There are people out there who hate the TSA and will pull out the camera out on their phone and mock you.

Pros

You may never find a security position with the same starting hourly rate. you introduce to an atmosphere that is one of a kind, you have the opportunity to meet new people very day, while you will build relationships amongst your co-worker and you will consider them like family. Although management is lousy you will look to your co-worker in your rank to support you and they will give you the same in return.

Cons

Poor Management. No one is on the same page.
