Pros

The benefits are excellent. The pay is decent for the amount of work performed. "Foot in the door" in federal government.

Cons

The culture isn't conducive to personal and career growth. Terrible morale among workers. Poor management from above. Inability to work with people's circumstances.

Love the mission, hate the work environment.

Pros

There is a an opportunity to truly make a difference in the ability of the flying public to travel safely. The agency has all of the "programs" that make working for the government a good thing.

Cons

Employees are nothing, sometimes not even a number. Staffing is low which punishes the good worker who shows up everyday ready to work. You end up doing your job and someone elses who decides to call out.

Pros

If you are a college student, TSA is a very good job since the pay is higher than most jobs you're likely to find. For someone needing full time employment, TSA is not a good option. Just something until you can find something better.

Cons

TSA officers are on their feet all day. Working in a very regimented environment (two 15 minute breaks in a 8 hour shift). Rigorous requalification testing, crappy raises, discipline/punishment for any deviations or lapses from procedures, poor prospects for advancement (unless you want to transfer and move to another city at your own expense). Then, there's passengers who think we are just an annoyance. Miserable job.
