Pros

Free pound of coffee each week, plentiful resources for learning about coffee varieties and the roasting process, many benefits and employee protections are offered.

Cons

Before the recession, Starbucks was a great company to work for. The managers back then had genuine passion for the job, and knew how to bring out the best from their employees so tasks could be delegated maturely and everyone could have a reasonable balance between work and life. After the stock price dropped from $36 per share to $8, the corporation's focus shifted from costumer service and delivering a great product, to sales and efficiency. By the time I left, the job felt like working for a fast-food chain. The best managers I had known either left or were fired, and their replacements don't seem ready for managerial positions (though they are probably being paid much less than their predecessors). My final manager was working 12+ hour days and would scold us for every little mistake we made while ignoring our successes. Our primary job was to sell as much Via as possible and up-sell to every costumer, including our regulars.

Pros

It's a very fun place to work. Great training...I'll take what I learned there with me and use it to make tasty drinks for the rest of my life. Also, you get a discount on drinks at any Starbucks, ANYWHERE, and a free bag of coffee every week. Good benefits, too.

Cons

Getting up to work at 4:30 in the morning to open, and dealing with the crazy people who NEED their 6 AM cup of coffee kind of sucks.
