It's not getting better

Pros

Great benefits. If you have the right manager, it can be a supportive environment. Trial by fire means quick learning curves.

Cons

Continual restructures, layoffs, and forcing out of staff in favor of external replacements. Lip service paid to diversity projects but only one notable senior manager (the trumpted hiring of the first female EoC of Nature) reflects change. Knowledge drain in all departments. Extremely low morale in many business areas.

Great work/life balance, not so great office culture

Pros

- Good benefits (401k with 3% match, paid sick and vacation, good healthcare) - Good work/life balance (9-5, 1 hour lunch, minimal weekend work), work from home options, summer hours - My manager cares about me as a person and doesn't expect me to devote my life to the company - Nice office - Salary is a little low but competitive

Cons

- Somewhat unfriendly, dry office culture - Reality of the job is repetitive - TERRIBLE IT. It's so bad, and really frustrating when you rely on a computer to do your work. - Not much opportunity for advancement.

Pros

A chance to learn different programming languages and put the latest buzzwords on your CV

Cons

Software development in London office is run by a clique of ex-ThoughtWorks (IT consultancy) employees who are afraid of people asking the “wrong questions”. Yes, some mess was created by a recent merger, but the current development, instead of consolidating on one of the platform, generates even more mess with no sign of proper technical leadership, just former IT consultancy employees writing and re-writing again whatever they fancy while ensuring that nobody else steps out of the line. The only way to survive there is to keep your head down, and to be careful not to ask accidentally a “wrong question” while learning to do your job.
