Very Disappointed in the Company

Pros

Most of the people I worked with were hard working and dedicated to doing a good job. The work environment was pleasant as well.

Cons

The company is too driven by short term sales projections - it frequently lets people go when sales are slow. I was let go with no warning after almost 10 years of highly productive employment and told that my position with the company had been eliminated as a cost cutting measure.

Pros

Good benefits when it comes to medical/dental/dependents. Family emergencies and the like are treated like actual unforeseen events, and not line items that you have 3 vacations days remaining in the calendar year for. This is a big, big nod to the HR department, who is full of compassionate, understanding, professional people. You might interview with them; they're great. The new building is nice and is a welcome upgrade from the previous location. Many people who work here have been with the company for decades, and are a very valuable source of information for someone who is just joining the company. If it doesn't already, your wardrobe will soon swell with plain clothes of unoffensive colors that aren't suited for any other occasion.

Cons

Nepotism is rampant. I have been witness to department heads announce that even though they're creating a new position, they're already bringing in their friend for orientation next week. Thought you could maybe show that you're qualified for the position? Oh, but I already told them they could have it, so we're not even doing interviews. I used to wonder why this company is 10 years behind the times technologically. I used to think of this as an opportunity to show management how we could automate, streamline and simplify processes. But I forgot the one thing holding it all back: management is 55+, white and male. Unable to learn and unable to adapt to change. If you're under 30 and want to work here, good luck. The wi-fi doesn't even work in half of the "state-of-the-art" building three years after it was built.

Pros

Stable company, good benefits. I love the people I work with.

Cons

Well my list is long. A few years ago, I would have said this was a great place to work. In the last few years our upper management has changed 3 times. Now I don't think the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. Our supervisors are very hands off and disconnected from the production floor. If you need any help from management, forget it. It will be faster to try and fix the problem yourself, or get help from another production worker. Management doesn't hold themselves accountable. But if an issue arises, production will get the blame. We are under staffed and only a few select positions will get filled. Also we do not train here, you will have to figure it all out for yourself. Just a few short years ago we were the flagship site for this company, but now we can't get out of our own way. We manage from crises to crises and wonder why we lose customers. So if you want to be treated like a child, who is running with scissors then this is the place for you.

Saint-Gobain Response

Thank you for your review. We appreciate you taking the time to point out areas where we could improve. We acknowledge that management has turned over and believe we now have an established professional who will help us improve Garden Grove. Innovation and Continuous improvement are key to our success as a business and as a site. As you mention, there can never be enough communication. This was apparent in the employee engagement survey responses and in the employee focus groups that were recently held on site. I am certain that since you took the time to voice your opinion you are someone we want helping us make Garden Grove a great place to work. I would encourage you to reach out to your local Human Resource Manager to further discuss your ideas and concerns.
