Pros

Good training. Good travel opportuity. Good for first 5 to 10 years of a career get out after this and before stagnation.

Cons

Too much emphasis on agreeing with bosses. Lots of talk but little support when it really mattered. Some excellent managers but some dross as well. Youre pretty screwed when you end up with a crap one for a year or two.

Pros

Very interesting technical work, excellent test facilities. Highly educated workforce. Good pay and benefits.

Cons

Many layers of management. In recent years, beaurocracy is heavy reducing job satisfaction and company performance. Upper management have become a bottleneck for low impact decisions. For example, a program manager responsible for all major decisions on a $10 million per year development program can't approve a $500 business trip to a supplier; all business travel must be approved by 4 additional levels of management, taking weeks, while delaying the program.

Pros

I was hired right out of University and worked for the company for nearly 4 years in the field. Fixed step training program for engineers where you travel to training /learning schools for upwards of 13wks to learn about SLB processes and technology. Also standardize how they do things across the world. Field bonus on top of salary. International travel potential or relocation. Work with very smart people.

Cons

Work life balance not ideal, lots of long hours. Every engineer before me made more, every engineer after me will make less. Not much engineering done, technical pathways require Masters, which the company will put you through but with a 3-5yr commitment afterwards. Bad managers seem to always get promoted.
