Pros

Beautiful campus in Cary. Fairly nice health care, including an on-site clinic in Cary. Nice gym in Cary. Well prepared food served at cost (Cary). Most of the rank and file are really great people.

Cons

Possibly one of the strangest companies I've ever worked for. SAS doesn't seem to care about money. That can be both good and bad. Bonuses that used to be large and frequent are now zero, because money in the long run is kind 'a important when you are a business. I'm also at a loss to describe the mindset. It definitely isn't an engineering mindset. Rather than continuously improve existing products that make north of a billion dollars, they are focused on killing those products and replacing them with "whatever is hot at the moment". This has lead to nearly endless technical debt and a truly scary code base. High level managements plan to solve technical debt is to rewrite everything, but differently and so they end up with something completely different, because apparently customers love throwing everything out and starting over. Needless to say planning isn't their strong point. Upper management is emotional driven and tend more toward proclamation over achievement (we are 'x', because I say we are). If you have an engineering mindset, you will be very frustrated. If you are looking for a place where you can "go with the flow" don't want to think, and can project a continuous chipper attitude, this could be your dream job.
