Pros

Company benifits and hours of work. SAS has some of the best facilities, offices, gyms, grounds, child care centers and healthcare facilities. The cafeterias are excellent. Most people only work 35 hours a week and its a very laid back environment.

Cons

Very clickish and few career opportunities. Most senior leadership has "grown-up" in SAS and its all about who you know. There is a lot of politics under the covers and if are not a part of the right crowd you can forget it. Also, for a technology company it is a VERY WHITE company. In my 7 years at SAS I came across very few non-whites and almost none in management.

Pros

Good benefits, very decent people. You have every opportunity to learn. Offer balanced work/life environment to most business units.

Cons

Sales compensation too grey and probably leaves a lot to be desired in "motivating" new customer/revenue opportunities. Although it seems "neat" at first, the quirky "perks" like M & M's every Wednesday is not the reason someone should believe they are work for a "great" company. There is no way to make more than an average income at almost every business function level. You have to "love" working FOR SAS to justify staying when many friends and/or peers choose challenges for management, money and more dynamic work environment.

SAS Needs to Grow Up

Pros

The employee benefits are amazing. There are chances for growth and development.

Cons

Very poor administration policies. Employee performance reviews are not done. Non technical training is disorganized. Much of the creativity in SAS is stymied based on how middle management believes the CEO will perceive the idea. Submitting an idea that runs contrary to the immediate manager's opinion can be dangerous. Additionally, many employees are held responsible for cost issues while accounting information was too closely held to be useful. SAS' approach to the international market is often short sighted.
