A company that has no faith in their employees.

Pros

You get to be around dogs and people who are just like you. You will make some of your best friends here.

Cons

After a few weeks of an economic downturn and a bit of profit loss, Rover decided to let go 41% of their employees. 9% were left on standby in a state of confusion. The CSuite chose to listen to Periscope dashboards vs. listening to their employees and their suggestions. Rover also chose to give minimal severance during a time of crisis and simply "wished us all the best on future endeavors". Two weeks prior to the mass execution, Rover had claimed that the business was in a good place financially and that we are all going to be able to make it through the COVID-19 crisis. Only two weeks later (today), they decided to lay off nearly 200 employees via a Google Live Stream. In no way would we (our collective group) recommend trusting the senior leadership at this company. And we would also not trust them in taking care of your dog. If they can't take care of people, why would you trust them to take care of their pet?

The past few weeks have been really tough for Rover, as we’ve had to say goodbye to team members who have been instrumental in building our platform and business. While we’re confident that we’ll emerge from these challenging times stronger than ever, our heart goes out to those who have been affected.

Pros

Being with dogs in the office

Cons

Complete bait and switch. If you are looking to work at a small / mid-late start up company beware. It is near impossible to get the simplest of daily tasks done because of the politics here. There is no career advancement unless you are Director and above. They desperately need to hire a CHRO. The company is crumbling due to the lack of HR leadership, expertise, and common sense when it comes to their employees. They do not care nor focus on attrition and instead point the finger and blame when employees leave 3, 6, 9 months in. This costs the company hundreds of thousands of dollars annually. This also affects the entire leadership team's credibility because they choose to keep inexperienced people on top in fear of damaging personal relationships. Everyone is burnt out from IC level to SVP. There is a culture of long term employees who get to say and do whatever they want and no one is held accountable. Ownership and the space to fail does not exist here and you will be thrown under the bus for the smallest mistakes, if your title is not that of Director and above.

Pros

The most incredible colleagues I've ever had the pleasure to work with.

Cons

After reassuring all global colleagues that no job losses would be made during the coronavirus pandemic, Rover.com fired 195 people on one pre-recorded video call. Access to slack and emails were removed as the words 'you have lost your job' were uttered, so you could not even wrap up projects and say goodbye to colleagues. To add salt to the wound? A press article about the redundancies went live 5 minutes later, before our redundancy letters were even received. This included 'heartfelt' quotes from the CEO, who we have not heard a word from. Subsequent company announcements explained to the employees who were not let go, that the business made the decision not to use its financial reserves to keep jobs, as this money is there for 'profit-driving activities'. Wow.
