      Unfortunate Evolution of a once-great software company that served an important role in the software eco-system

      Pros

      Profitable. There are some wonderful and talented individuals at the company.... but most wonderful and talented people have either left in the past year or are desperately seeking a way out.

      Cons

      The entry of private equity and the "evolution" of the company from 2010-present made for an increasingly toxic environment. One consulting company after another that didn't really get it... convincing Rocket to pursue a strategy that made the company something it was not. Terrible communication to the company from the top. New class of executives that just adds overhead and formality without actually helping move the company forward.

      Pros

      Worked with a tight-knit group of QA Engineers and Software Developers, performing U2 database builds daily on Unix/Linux for the QA team to test. The engineers are very skilled at maintaining the U2 Databases and associated Client Tools, and are constantly working on adding new tools and features to enhance future releases. Several people in the the company have been there over 2 decades, so their working-knowledge is very deep.

      Cons

      Overly-aggressive growth goals caused recent financial difficulties for the company as a whole, resulting in unprecedented company-wide lay-offs of many good, dedicated, long-time employees.

      Pros

      Intelligent, dedicated people. Folks take their jobs very seriously. Friendly atmosphere.

      Cons

      Legacy products. Significant resources dumped into products operated at a loss. No product road maps. No strategic plan. Ineffective senior leadership. Recent mass exodus. Recent shrinkage of admittedly generous benefits package. Non-existent career growth. Insulting bonus structure. P&L ownership very decentralized. CEO can be a severe, yet passive-aggressive micro-manager.
