Great people in the organization, limited career potential

Pros

good medical benefits, intelligent and passionate workforce. Much of the company has been there for a long period of time so there is good rapport. Some areas of excellence - strong IT department, Finance function, some R&D groups.

Cons

Limited growth potential - both for the company and employee. The company is working to reposition itself for growth rather than gradual decline, but most of the businesses were already mature when they were acquired, so without making dramatic changes, or making more aggressive acquisitions, the trajectory is unlikely to change. Like most companies, career development needs to be managed by the employee - do not expect management to contribute. It is not an expectation made of the management team and career opportunities in general are limited. Concerning within the last year is the departures and demotions of women. Only a handful of women remain in management positions (none remain on the executive team).

Formerly great company in the process of implosion

Pros

Great benefits. Fair compensation. Free coffee and soft drinks.

Cons

A number of the senior management have recently left the company (CFO, CIO, General Counsel and head of HR). The (remaining) senior management is myopic and uninspired. Those who left were actually of quite high caliber. The company lacks vision or commitment to their employees. Maintenance revenues are on a steady decline, indicating an inability to attract enough new customers to replace those who are choosing not to renew.

Pros

Work life balance, Collogues, work culture.

Cons

1. Leadership is not interested in growing the products. There is too much of "strategy" involved which makes no sense as it never gets till the implementation phase. There are so many products that have tremendous potential and should be rearchitected, moved to hybrid cloud, but the people at the top just want to keep selling with declining revenue and no engineering effort slowly moving towards EOL. There is no innovation happening in the products all of them are in maintenance phase. 2. So called "Core Values" are empty words, none of them are ever followed. 3. Company is up for sale. The CEO in an all hands intentionally/unintentionally revealed that part of the plan behind the BU renaming is to create exit opportunities.
