Pros

pros is free food. Also good work life balance because products are not profitable which leads to no major development work.

Cons

Frequent Product Closures: Many departments and products at Rakuten are not profitable, leading to frequent team downsizing and even complete shutdowns of teams in India. No Job Security: Lack of job security due to frequent product closures and team downsizing. Frequent Internal Transfers: Employees often have to attend multiple interviews for internal job transfers. If no openings are found in their current domain, they may be forced to switch domains and learn new technologies. Constant Change: Employees may need to switch teams and tech stacks every year to survive, leading to a lack of continuity in work and skill development. No Profitability: If joining Rakuten, it’s crucial to aim for departments and products that are profitable to ensure better job security and growth opportunities. They Force work from office or apply leave for doing more than 2 days work from home, if you need to work from home you have to provide medical certificates. No cab facilities and proper transport.

Pros

- The PTO was great, starting at 20 days and went up with 3, 5, and 10 year tenure. Celebrates all major holidays plus floating holidays. - My fellow engineers and managers were great and supportive of each other. Everyone was respected, regardless of level of seniority. - Projects were interesting and we always had new features/projects to work on. - Career growth was good. Learned a lot about the software engineer industry as a whole with all of the moving parts, but only got to really get better in a few areas (which I think is normal in most companies). I was given a promotion during my team here. - High/quick impact. Relatively smaller team, so I had lots of opportunities to have impact through various projects. - Benefits package was nice with decent 401k, parental leave, health benefits, stock options, yearly bonus, etc. - Work with diverse groups of people outside of just the office (people in Tokyo, Paris, Toronto, etc.)

Cons

- Lots of acronyms and sometimes lack of documentation - Sometimes had late meetings in order to have calls with external teams, but not too many.
