Pros

Raytheon IIS in Garland has a reputation of having the best engineers when compared to other defense contractors and commercial companies. Most of the engineers and program mangement staff are very pleasant people to work with. Engineers are often paid overtime on programs. The work is sometimes very technically challenging. Many employees are very ethical. The health care benefit is very good. The retirement benefit for the legacy E-Systems employees is excellent, which causes mid-career and older employees to be tied down to Raytheon.

Cons

First line supervisors and managers are extremely poor at their job. Performance reviews may be performed by a supervisor/manager which the employee has had little to no contact. It is very difficult to get a promotion. Many engineers, in order to maintain their lock on job/domain knowledge, will not share any information. Engineers are responsible for networking to find their next assignment. There is almost no technical training budget for employees. The company allows family members to be in the same organizational chain of command.

Pros

If you work on a production program, chances are work can either be extremely demanding and offer plenty of technical challenges and midnight lab shifts, or boring you to death. The best type of work are usually found at CRAD (Customer-funded R & D) where one can achieve a balance of the 2.

Cons

There's plenty of career holes that one can fall into if one does their job too good at a boring field. In addition, there's plenty of technological inertia in the aerospace industry due to the inherent security needs.

Pros

People are passionate about the underlying vision at Raytheon - to protect the warfighter and save lives. Raytheon has a good base line of "best in class" systems and processes and are working to push them to the next level. Good people that are engaged and fun to work with - very smart and motivated.

Cons

The bureaucracy is frustrating. If you enter the organization "low" you will battle the system to get right sized. Thus, make sure to push hard to get into the organization as senior / high pay as possible...it will set you up better.
