Stressful, Dull But not the Worst

Pros

As a part time member of staff i am contracted for 4 hours a week which in its self is not too bad if one week you decide you don't want to do all weekend. You can take overtime and it's rare that they don't let you work more hours. They usually want people to come in and work as much as possible from what i have seen.

Cons

No Permanent discount. I think you get a 10% discount 2 weeks before christmas in your own store, If they feel like it. Customers are rude, messy. Some customers come in and act like they want to be waited on hand and foot as if they are in Selfridges... You are busy constantly, this can be a good thing but also a bad thing because although you are busy the day drags anyway and feels like forever 4 hour shifts get no break. which is fair enough but when your on your feet the whole time during busy periods can be tiring. if you work lates during cold times of the year the store gets colder and colder the later it gets after store closing :( Some departments can be lonely if it's just you on there. Stockroom can be really messy and hard to find anything.

Pros

Retail Experience Usually easy to get overtime (if you're part time) Weekday staff get all weekends/bank holidays off (but weekend staff have to work them) OK pay (very slightly above minimum wage) Advertise all jobs internally

Cons

No discount (except 10% for 4 weeks over Christmas) Have to provide own uniform No flexibility with hours/shift changes etc Manager favouritism Lack of Communication Crazy HR policies - have to clock in/out 8 times a day! Have to take three unpaid breaks for an 8 hour day, meaning you're actually there 9.5 hours, if come the end of the week you have gone over precisely 40 hours you are made to leave early/take an extra break as you would go into time and a half, and threatened with disciplinary action. No appreciation for staff from either customers or management Must be willing to be randomly selected to be searched by security everytime you leave the building (again, threat of disciplinary if you say no)

Cons
