Pros

I can't think of any apart from you're only required to give 1 week's notice of resignation.

Cons

The staff are not valued, you're treated worse than cattle. There is no flexibility in your working hours, weekend staff and weekday staff so weekenders have to work every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays. Only paid minimum wage, under 18's is less than £5 an hour. If you're on a less than 20 hour contract you're not paid sick pay, (this wasn't explained to me nor is it made clear in the staff handbook). Us and them attitude from the management, no meaningful consultation with staff, we were made to feel like second class citizens. Students are treated especially badly. The worse place I've ever worked with very high staff turnover and no decent training for new starters. I'm glad to be out of there.

Pros

-Very simple work -Amazing co-workers -Management is very friendly (local store management) -Usually, overtime is available for all staff to sign up to -Very clear holiday entitlement and booking progress -Free Coffee/Tea for Staff (although most people aren't aware of this!)

Cons

-Simple work = boring work -Job is repetitive and not challenging -Rate of Pay doesn't scale with your responsibilities (Same pay for Cash Officer than Sales Assistant) -If you are on a close shift, you won't get out on time and you won't get paid for the extra minutes you work (acc. to paycheck) -No extra pay for overtime -No extra pay for bank holidays (Weekend staff HAVE to work all bank holidays acc. to contract) -Higher Management has no involvement (Who even is our Area Manager?) -Very disrespectful customers -Power-Hungry Supervisors/Managers can fully bloom as higher management doesn't care if they think the "lower" employees are useless -Very limited career opportunities -Useless Benefit-Scheme -Staff discount for only 2 weeks of the year -Airconditioning breaks on a regular basis - no water used to be provided at the tills until after complaint was made to trade union -Holiday pay is calculated including overtime as well - example: Say you work 8h part time Saturdays and Sundays. Then you holiday pay would be for 8h a day. But if you do overtime (most overtime is 4h) during the week, your actual holiday pay goes down - it is calculated on you average hours worked during the past 3 months. The more overtime you do, the worse you're off on your holidays!
