Pros

My team is great about encouraging us to take time off and the work hours (for me) are truly 9-5, which I appreciate. I am lucky in that my managers are fantastic and absolutely set the standard for how we approach work / life balance and have been incredibly supportive. This review is based on my current experience, past experiences at other houses have been... not as good.

Cons

From my experience, the work environment differs greatly from imprint to imprint, and depends on whether you work in marketing, publicity, or editorial. No two are the same in terms of work expectations. Also, I would be remiss not to mention how low salaries are compared to other companies. Upward career progression can be slow, and even when you get raises, it's not always as much as you'd like for it to be.

Pros

A huge and well known publishing company. Industry experts with years of experience to learn from.

Cons

Huge lack of diversity and seemingly no forward plans to change this in this specific imprint. Senior staff have poor sensitivity training when managing their staff. Poor understanding and assessment of workload from a managerial stand point upon review. Culture supports the idea that certain behaviours are excusable for longstanding members of the company. This is okay for some but not all people can work well in such an environment.
