Pros

A great place for people who care about books and want to work with smart people. PRH has great perks and while you might be understaffed you are encouraged to take time off to recharge.

Cons

While I have been promoted, I have hit the ceiling in my position. I may still be promoted in the future but my responsibilities will likely not change. Most people do not leave their positions so there is little growth or upward mobility. Since our merger with Random House our once quirky work environment has become stuffy and corporate

Great but publishing is rough

Pros

Friendly and energetic culture among employees, solid pay and benefits (for publishing), accessible offices.

Cons

It's kind of unstable in certain divisions, but so is the industry overall. Lack of clarity around remote/hybrid work as a company. The guidance is on a department-by-department basis but its extremely varied and some will have more pressure than others to come in.

Toxic, life-sucking place to work

Pros

Great colleagues, access to books and events

Cons

Takes advantage of people’s passions… why pay you properly or treat you like a human when they’re *letting you* work for them? Gross management practices, ego comes first. Will completely overwork and burn you out then toss you aside if you refuse to kiss the ring. Suck up to your manager, try not to rock the boat, do anything new, or ask for help and you’ll be just fine.
