Pros

Working with authors and other smart people; Getting to see books before they are published; easy-going management with ability to create semi-flexible schedules; Often promote from within - it seemed like every position that was posted was posted with someone in mind. This is good for current employees, bad for incoming ones, but the EA positions are almost always hired from outside since these are entry-level

Cons

Low pay; promotions are impossible to get if you don't want to go into sales - most DE positions are now freelancers, meaning no room for employees to take these positions.

Pros

great coworkers! close relationships with other assistants, lots of people who care about learning

Cons

no training, no advancement unless you go into sales, more work than can be done in 35 hours/week, more administrative work than editorial, little creativity, vague responsibilities, understaffed, low morale
