Hello, Thank you for leaving us a review and sharing your experience at Octopus Energy. It's good to hear that there were some good points about working with us and our location is good. I'm sorry that there were some things that you did not enjoy. With regards to the working hours, we try to make it really clear during the hiring process that we don’t have a traditional ‘clock in clock out culture’. A key part of how we work at Octopus is how our teams look after their own customer base. We believe this creates a better customer experience but we do appreciate that it can occasionally require the team to work a bit later to catch up on work. However, on the occasions where teams do decide to work late, it’s certainly not compulsory and is often a decision made by the team themselves. On the flip side, we really do pride ourselves on being flexible with our team members in return. For example, when it comes to people needing to leave early due to personal situations, appointments, house viewings etc we always try to accommodate and rarely say no to these sorts of requests. Regarding pay, we’ve done a lot of work over the last 18 months to make pay fair & rewarding. We’ve introduced a company-wide inflation process to make sure people’s pay doesn't go backwards and is in line with cost of living and we regularly benchmark our salaries in each of the local job markets. We also have our skills academy that allows you to earn more money by learning new skills & knowledge and this can be achieved at the pace you wish to go. Thank you for your feedback, we are always looking for ways to improve and continue to make this a great place to work. We wish you all the best in your new role. Please drop me a line via email or LinkedIn and we can go from there if you would like to discuss any of these points further. Kind regards Fay Olner, Site Operations Manager

Pros

- Free drinks in the office on a Friday - Occasional free food - Liked the people I worked with - Opportunity to progress

Cons

My experience working at Octopus was horrible and completely shattered my confidence and mental health. They lied to us in training essentially selling the job as something completely different, and when I started working I realised it was basically like working in a call centre. There were no departments so we had to know how to deal with every type of query which meant our workload was too much to manage. Every aspect of our day was scheduled and controlled, there was constant negativity being pushed on us about stats being met. Was rarely allowed to take sick days as they would always just tell me to work from home instead. When I spoke up about my anxiety getting bad I got next to no support, was recommended to just ‘take baths’ and ‘meditate’ and was consistently gaslighted and told that’s it was ‘just the job’ and was my fault for not telling them how to support me (?). Bizarrely no HR department either so the only option I had was to talk to senior management about my issues who were part of the problem and definitely not trained to deal with MH. I would not recommend anyone to work here.

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We really appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear you didn’t feel you had the appropriate support during your time at Octopus. Our operating model is centred on teams supporting a customer base end-to-end. We do this through empowering teams with knowledge and tools, and believe this creates the best experience for team members and customers. We appreciate that this is different to how lots of other service teams run and can be demanding for the team. In the next 1-2 months, we’re looking at how we can rebalance workloads. It’s important for the team to recharge before returning to work after illness, and we encourage team members who are unwell to take time off. We’re sorry if that was not your experience. Whilst managers are trained and well-equipped to support teams with wellbeing and performance, team members are encouraged to speak to any leader in the business if they have concerns. We’ve started running drop-ins and Q&A to provide space for this. Thanks again for your feedback. Erin Bullions Head of Operations Octopus Energy
