Pros

You are helping others and go beyond your position to do so

Cons

Far to management dominated and due to austerity and govt cutbacks increasing privatised and less patient focussed. More money saving focussed

Pros

Launched in 2007 by a private company on behalf of the Department of Health, NHS Choices had seven great years of growth, becoming biggest health site in Europe.

Cons

The running of the site was taken over by a Department of Health quango in 2015. Since then its staff and traffic have fallen off a cliff.

Pros

Interesting work, sometimes working with inspiring people, continually meeting new faces, on your feet rather than stuck in an office

Cons

No room for promotion or career advancement other than waiting years to progress through surgical training. Training requires thousands of pounds per year out of your own pocket simply to do the job (in course fees, exam fees, regulatory body membership etc) and largely constitutes teaching yourself in your own time, rather than actual on the job training. Other doctors and nurses feel overworked and overstretched therefore arranging simple tasks becomes problematic
