Concerns About the Future

Pros

Many associates have been with MetLife a long time and know their business and roles. Very open to minorities and veterans; have several groups for those associates and their allies. Some signs that the company is trying to modernize their application platforms with newer technology. Great medical benefits and good 401K matching. Three personal days for emergencies in addition to paid time off (paid time off based on level and years of service). CEO has a great work history, great grasp on the issues impacting the company, and communicates effectively when communications are shared.

Cons

MetLife has publicly announced that they will be reducing costs by $1 billion by 2019 and this will include staffing cuts. Applications for employment have to be approved by senior leadership and they are becoming harder to approve (less mobility if you are an employee). This is the one reason why I would not recommend MetLife to a friend. The Finance Department in Tampa has a really bad reputation for burning out employees and not promoting associates who stay. Raises are minimal. Most associates receive a significant increase in pay after finding employment in other companies.

Pros

Pay, Benefits and great location.

Cons

No work life balance, hostile work environment, no concern for employees, facility is old, and management only cares about self's. Unstructured, unethical, and only cares about getting the job done. Do not care about how the job gets done or the quality of the work. Peers are quitting left and right. Work environment is like high school (micromanaged). There have been 2 reorgs with in one year.

Too Difficult to Get the Job Done

Pros

Most of the new hires are excellent! Casual dress code, impressive state of the art campus, on-site gym (requires membership), xbox rooms, good bonuses, great noise suppression technology

Cons

Too many hoops to job through in order to get anything done. Most of the systems are on incredibly out-dated technology. Did I mention that it's difficult to get anything done? No cubicles, it's one of those "collaborative" workspaces, which means that you get about three feet worth of desk space on a long work surface. And it is so bogged down with bloated "processes" that it takes a longer than it should to get anything done.
