Pros

Great people work at Liberty. The company supports the culture of personal respect and professionalism. There are excellent opportunities to acquire new skills, take training classes. They have a decent benefit package, employees are provided with a pension plan completely funded by the company. The company provides excellent developmental opportunities, their performance rating system is good.

Cons

Strong hierarchical organization, excessive burocracy, poor communication of the senior management initiatives to the rank-and-file. Senior Management is often misled by their direct reports and does not see the real picture. In decision making, loyalty to senior managment often prevails over achieving business goals. Lack of process maturity. Some finger-pointing.

Pros

This is a growing company that won't tank any time soon. The benefits are good. They cost more to the employee each year but that is the norm. Initial pay is above average and at least the first few annual raises are substantial. The profit sharing plan is good. In a year in which the goals are met or exceeded you will make at least 5% of your annual income in this form. There are ample opportunites to move up if you are willing to relocate or do whatever it takes to make yourself look good in front of the right people. Plenty of vacation days. You are able to limit your week to 37.5 hrs per week but this will probably hurt your upward mobility.

Cons

Of course businesses exist to make money but too often it seems that short term profits are the sole or primary motive behind each business decision. FYI - 'business decision' is a term that is used by management when they had to do something that they would be ashamed of if their friends or family found out but is justified because it made the company a few extra dollars or was necessary to keep their own job. Employees interpert this as an indication that they are expendable if a decision will increase the profit to cost ratio in the least little bit. This tends to put a damper on productivity and morale since the perceived lack of loyalty of the company toward the employee results in dimished loyalty from the employee toward the company. Rewards and recognition are received if they can be quantified by an existing metric. If it can't or isn't quantified numerically, it doesn't count.

Pros

Strong company reputation, great benefits and salary, and a great work environment. If you are a hard worker, your compensation will make you very happy. Your hours are very flexible and there are many programs for employees who would like to continue their education. There are so many different forms of recognition if you perform well.

Cons

Micro management is a real negative at times. Things change often, sometimes without notice. Numbers are always stressed on a weekly basis, instead of looking at the larger picture. Sometimes managers rely on other employees to teach new hires essential techniques. Sure, this is a way that information is transmitted to new hires, but somethings should be taught directly by management.
