Pros

Great vacation, although it is difficult to use it because you get two months behind if you take a week off. Pay is very good (the only way they can keep people in the claims department). Advancement within the department is quick, and your pay increases rapidly (if you do a good job).

Cons

Management is incompetent. Amount of work asked to do is just not possible. Turnover is extremely high, especially with recent graduates. Very difficult to move jobs within the company. If you are a good employee, they will do everything they can to keep you in the claims department. I would still be there if I would have been given the opportunity to interview outside of the claims department. Upper management would not allow me to interview outside of the claims department, so I left.

Pros

It's a great company with good pay and benefits. It's a very respected company in the industry, so having their name on your resume doesn't hurt at all!

Cons

Unless you are in the Home Office in Boston, you're very limited in growth outside of Underwriting and Claims. All the financial functions are in New England or Seattle. So are the better IT roles it seems as well. They are usually open to you relocating to another office for a better position within the company; however, unless you're at the manager level or higher it's most likely going to be on your own dime. Also, it seems that unless you've come from a private New England university, you're options to transfer to Boston are rather limited too.

Cons

Too Much Gossip, Too many people gaining jobs because of tenure, rather than merit. Sales Managers that never sold insurance in their lives.
