Pros

company is growing and makes money so working conditions are still alright.

Cons

Very big into greenwashing, talking a lot about positive environmental impact but the only thing that matter is signing more client and churning out features. Speaking publicly about problems is *heavily* frown upon and management promptly take (covert) action to squash that. Technical career paths are a joke, and overall, technical excellence is a non goal (see point about feature factory for clients)

Hi there, Thanks for leaving us a review and sharing your perspective. It’s good to hear you recognise the stability that comes with Kraken’s growth; we’re proud to be scaling sustainably while continuing to offer meaningful work and flexibility. We know there’s always a balance to strike between rapid delivery and long-term technical excellence, and we don’t see those as mutually exclusive. We’re working hard to support deeper investment in our engineering practices while continuing to meet the needs of our clients - both are critical to our success. On progression, we’ve been developing clearer career pathways for technical roles through the engineer development framework, and many of our leads and managers have been through, or are currently on, our leadership development programme to support this. We also want people to feel they can speak openly, feedback and challenge are a vital part of how we grow. If you’ve experienced anything that made you feel otherwise, I’d really appreciate the opportunity to understand more. Thanks again, Olivia Roberts olivia.roberts@kraken.tech

Pros

Nice people, rapid growth that opens new opportunities, but...

Cons

Immature leadership, lack of transparency around pay, salaries below market and fake promises of unlimited holidays. Changes that affect employees happened with short notice. In my opinion, they should stop asking new starters to add reviews here, as they are not reflecting the reality.

Hi there, Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. It’s encouraging to hear you appreciate the people here and see the opportunities that come with our rapid growth. We are actively working on leadership development initiatives to better equip our leaders with the skills and support they need to lead effectively and empathetically via our leadership development programme. Regarding compensation, we strive to offer fair pay aligned with our mission, and we’re continually reviewing how to improve transparency around salaries and benefits - you can hear more about this in the recent recording of AMA. We take your feedback seriously and would welcome the chance to discuss your experience in more detail. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at olivia.roberts@kraken.tech if you’re open to a conversation. Thanks again for your input and for helping us improve. Exciting work and great colleagues, but senior leadership needs to step up

Pros

- Talented and passionate colleagues who genuinely care about you and delivering great outcomes together. - Innovative culture that (still) encourages radical thinking and challenges the status quo. - Opportunities to take ownership and grow quickly if you’re proactive. - Exciting projects with high visibility in the energy/tech space.

Cons

- Cultural drift is setting in as the senior leadership layer expands with new or existing people, where some are not embodying the values that once defined the company and was the key for its success. - Client projects are launched with big ambitions but without enough attention to laying solid foundations. The culture is that teams are expected to step up, which can be empowering. But when structural gaps, whether on Kraken's or the client's side, are left unaddressed, teams fall into endless cycles of chasing down issues and explaining to internal stakeholders why they’re happening, rather than actually making progress. - Career progression can feel inconsistent; luck, timing, connections, and even location sometimes matter more than contribution, fit or skill.
